The phenomenal hoarding of ammunition in recent years tells us a lot about the mindset of right wing doomsday preppers (as opposed to the ones who are just cautious about the future). It is not unusual for these people to have 50 or 100 thousand rounds stashed here and there. Some of them have millions. They not only think they will have to hold off marauding others, they think there will be hordes of them, and that they will be able to hold off these hordes if they only have enough bullets. There is some really bad craziness loose out there.

I’m hard pressed to see how any rational person could think that, if he had to kill enough marauders to make a significant dent in a 1000 round stash, they’d come in at a rate that would allow him to reload before they overran him.
