re: #109 Dr Lizardo

OK. Off topic, and totally not related in any way, shape or form to duck jokes.

I just got done watching Winter Sleep, the latest film by Turkish director Nuri Bilge Ceylan, and holy crap! what an outstanding film; I can see why it won the Palme d’Or at Cannes earlier this year. .

Three hours plus of dialogue and masterclass acting with clear inspiration from Anton Chekov, as well as Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky. Cinematically, reminiscent of Ingmar Bergman’s Scenes From A Marriage.

An intense, heavily dialogue driven character study. Definitely one of the best films of the year, bar none, and I’d personally consider it nothing short of a masterpiece.

See it when it comes out early next year in the US if you’re into arthouse films. It’s Dr. Lizardo’s Pick of the Week!

Had me at Chekov. So many of my favorite writers take their inspiration from him. I’ll definitely look for it.
