I’m not sure what “better” is going to amount to in the end. At this point even long term average precipitation in the Colorado river basin can not rebuild Lake Mead and the other reservoirs.

Obama mentioned this problem in Vegas a couple of years back and was shut down quite quickly by the vested parties in the real estate and associated industries.

Americans just won’t accept that we can’t bend the universe to our will.

Las Vegas is in the middle of the driest region of this country and ought not be a place that more people should be heading to in order to live. But that is a story that is too hard to hear so everyone plugs their ears.

Here in California future seasons may bring enough rain, but by the end of the century SoCal cannot be what it is today. Either some very massive investment has to be made in securing more water sources, or life has to change radically.

But the establishment in CA has resolutely blocked the construction of dams for a long time. They think they can have their wild rivers and their water supply too. Not exactly. Not both. It’s a Hobbsian choice.
