A few things:
1) Much of that handwringing is rhetorical
2) Without context, this tiresome genre simply gives an impression that only these views matter or even exist. There’s no counterpoint available

Yes, it’s important. But these pieces often tread familiar ground, often literally by the same outlet visiting the same location repeatedly. And rarely, the pieces contextualize even with empirical evidence of how race factors in. It takes it at face value too much to be of worth

We are, which can be both boon and bane. Part of the reason we don’t have an outrage machine is that it’s been attempted and didn’t tweak the target audience the same way Fox News does for the right wing

It is in many ways, but look at the degree it influences left-wing politics, compared to the way, say, Fox, Breitbart, InfoWars, etc. have become THE go-to outlets for mainstream conservatism. There’s no real contest, which is precisely the point
