If Jefferson Davis never went to prison for his crimes, then you’re probably right (though he did spend some time in federal custody that would be similar to a modern military jail).

Though I suppose it all depends on just how bad the crimes end up being. If he’s impeached and removed or resigns, Pence is going to make a political calculation on what’s best for his re-election campaign.

I wonder if Pence is involved somehow. Remember Trump wanted Christie, Manafort insisted on Pence and the kids too.
