I know a popular question is why were those kids in DC anyway. I saw someone mention this in the comments of another blog with no source. So, I used my googlefu.
Apparently going to an anti-choice march is part of the confirmation process in many Catholic diocese. Here’s the result of a google search with the following search terms:
attending pro life rally requirement for catholic confirmation
Looks like it a choice on a list of activities that fulfill requirements for confirmation.
I live closer to DC so it wouldn’t be that hard but going to anti-choice rallies really is a big part of rite of passage for these Catholic schools. As for requiring it for confirmation, Holy Shit!
