EVERY reporter makes a mistake. O’Donnell’s mistake is not getting the story wrong. He pulled it deciding that their wasn’t sufficient sourcing. And that’s probably because the people at the top got cold feet. Imagine, from watching All the President’s Men, if the Washington Post had applied that to the Watergate investigation.

As for referring to Hannity, any reference to them is just to point out they need to STFU.

We hand wring way too much, and sit there trying so hard to make sure we’re not wrong that the right uses it against us. It’s the same thing that is happening with climate change: scientists have worked so hard to try to make their science unassailable that it looks like their conservative model may be under predicting what is going to happen.

Unfortunately, the reality is in the current atmosphere, we have to be unimpeachable in what we say or it’ll be hung around our necks like a millstone, whereas the right can throw shit on the wall and see it immediately stick because of credulous media double standards.

It’s awful, it’s galling, it sucks and it means our own good faith is constantly weaponized against us. But that’s reality. And the worst thing is that if this does end up shown true in the end, it won’t matter, because the narrative has already called it a scurrilous lie and thus any proof for the matter will be treated as worse lies than anything Trump has said.
