Do take many of them as pretty well consolidated. There are people actively working to rescind the prohibition of slavery, too, I reckon, but they aren’t going to get anywhere with it.

This guy is a good example of somebody who’s lost all contact with the reality of what is and isn’t culturally possible.* We aren’t going to execute women who get abortions. No jury would hand down a guilty verdict. Not while the US remains in any way recognizably the US.

And is there any place in the world where that’s the penalty? Has there been such a place any time within this century? Maybe Romania’s Ceaucescu would have done that, but he’s 20th century and he met pretty much the same end as did Mussolini so he’s not going to get copycats eager to follow in his footsteps.

*Let alone decent and defensible. But sometimes things happen that are indecent and indefensible. Just—-not so brazenly. This proposal doesn’t pass the upchuck test. Not one US representative would endorse it, not one big-box church pastor would endorse it. Not one rabbi, or mullah, or imam, or priest. The leadership of the country, across the spectrum, will either not deign to give the issue the time of day since no one with any sway is proposing it, or will denounce it for the bloody madness it is.

Mississippi.
