Look, I can understand why Anderson apologized. He holds himself to certain standards. It’s not about Lord. It’s not about anyone else. It’s about the level of professionalism that he wants to maintain and he failed, in his own assessment.

It’s a sign of personal principles/standards and if we’re going to try and demand politicians and journalists have them, it’s not a good show to turn around and get pissed off every time someone acts in accordance with them.

I would do the same thing in his shoes.

Sorry, but I don’t respect this at all. One of the reasons I started this blog was to push back against the media’s “view from nowhere,” in which reporters are not expected to ever react to what they’re reporting on.

And one of the reasons we’re in this incredibly messed up situation with a Trump in the White House is because of this view from nowhere, in which every viewpoint is entitled to equal consideration and respect, no matter how willfully, deliberately dishonest it is, as long as it makes money for the company.

People like Jeffrey Lord are gaming this corrupt, spineless system. Anderson Cooper had a brief moment in which his better self simply couldn’t take it any more. And now he’s backing down.

That’s not a win, and it’s not professional. It’s why we’re in this mess.
