Monument Mall in Scottsbluff suffered years of decline and poor rental numbers. A couple years ago it was purchased by a fellow who identifies troubled malls in potentially good markets and rehabilitates them.

The mall is now open again after millions of dollars of upgrades. Every store in the mall has been rented for over a year, and they have a waiting list for rentals.

They don’t have a Ten Commandments monument in Monument Mall though.

Since this guy bought it, the mall has been in the black.

The mall model isn’t necessarily bad; what’s bad is building malls in saturated markets.

Destination malls, too. People still need to try on clothes, and often they like to hold things in their hands before choosing.
