I’m wondering if there might be another reason besides an expectation of pardon that these goobers were so sure they would get away with their insurrection.
It is a staple of right wing propaganda and political folklore that lefty demonstrators get off with a slap on the wrist, at worst, when they are arrested. That this isn’t really true in egregious cases obviously makes no difference. The RWNJs apparently do not understand the difference between obstructing traffic and attempted assassination as a legal liability. Added to their assumption of white privilege, this led them to think they would walk just like some kid at Berkeley who sat down in the road.

I have no doubt that they really believed they represent the majority of Americans, and that they would be touted as heroes of the Second American Revolution. That is how deluded they are.
