I first heard this from Shepard Smith on Fox news. He was pretty pissed and upset about it.

People are angry over the irresponsible behavior of the police officials in the case. A reader says, “The inexplicable behavior of the Sanford, FL authorities in this terribly sad affair has swung wildly between callous indifference and criminal incompetence. How did they not bother to notify Tracy Martin, who called the police repeatedly in a frantic search for Trayvon, that his son had in fact been killed — FOR THREE DAYS? Further, the police department dispatched a narcotics investigator, rather than a homicide detective, to investigate the scene of Trayvon’s shooting, and they failed to test George Zimmerman for drugs and alcohol or gunpowder residue. The entire town leadership needs to be purged and replaced.”
