That the idea of Trump pardoning himself was even floated out there signifies — at least to me — that they can’t rely on Pence to do it for him.

It signals to me that he realizes by this point that evidence of criminal acts is bound to turn up and he’s looking for ways to avoid being removed from office due to it.
