On the other hand, the Emergency Broadcast System, which requires that all television and radio stations interrupt their programming with a loud buzzing noise and carry the emergency message from the government might become a thing of the past if owners and operators could find better (and less disruptive) ways to alert Americans that there is an emergency.
I wonder if they’re considering using the internet as a warning system. Of course, not everyone has internet access, but not everyone has a TV either (or if they have one, it’s not always on).
Which leads to my next thought: How long would it be before someone hacked the system and created mass hysteria with a “War of the Worlds” type broadcast?
