Yes, Dan Rather is still trying to get people to believe there’s some question about whether they were fakes. It’s kind of tragic in a way to see someone who really did do some good journalism in his time go down in flames clinging to a falsehood, because his ego just won’t let him admit a mistake.

He very much wanted the memos to be genuine. Wish fulfillment fantasies aren’t just for wing nuts.

I still tend to think the memos were constructed as a trap for the media to fall into, to serve as an insurance policy against W’s days in the TANG being used against him.
