That’s sort of like believing Trump is going to change this time for real, because he really means it and has seen the light now.

Assumes something not supported by the evidence at hand.

Sorry, but at this point my sympathy is for those being hurt by the actions he has taken. I can pity him (and do, sometimes) but I otherwise don’t waste my time on him.
