I doubt they love Trump. He’s a tool for them to expand their influence in the region. Once he no longer has value (12:01 pm est on January 20, 2021), they’ll let him hang.

Nor do I think they fear Iran. More likely, they see Iran as a competitor for regional power. Throw in some sectarianism and you’ve got a nice recipe for a regional rivalry.

The way we balance the equation is probably some combination of reducing global reliance on fossil fuels, normalizing relations with Iran (including, at some point, a trade deal), and generally promoting diplomatic solutions to problems instead of bombing the shit out of everything
