And he’d be right. Same deal with the uncle mentioned elsewhere up-thread. Racist trash should not be tolerated for any reason. Coddling a family member’s racism for fear of offending them is permitting it to continue for selfish reasons. You don’t even need to tell them they’re a terrible person for it, just say “Hey Mom/Dad/Uncle/Grandma/Granddad? Don’t ever say racist shit like that in my presence again.”
