The Smithsonian has now sunk to Buzzfeed level listicles.
Their 100 most significant Americans includes many who are not Americans, a horse and Sarah Palin (and lists Arnold Schwarzenegger and Hulk Hogan as significant athletes, along with Secretariat.) No category for scientists or writers (although Edith Wharton did share the First Women category with the aforementioned Sarah Palin and Bette Davis), but sections for outlaws and religious leaders. The presidents include George W. Bush and (of course) Ronaldus Reaganus, but not Eisenhower, not Kennedy, and of course, not Obama (obviously not significant.)
The methodology is absurd (Wikipedia and books scanned by Google figure in a major way) and the results are laughable.
Idiocracy! It’s not just a movie anymore.
