China is looking at the reality that if the Kim dynasty collapses, NK becomes a ticking time bomb that will unleash a human wave of millions heading for the nearest exit. We’re not talking the peaceful reunification of East and West Germany or the quiet dissolution of the USSR. We’re talking millions of peasants who will un-ass and head for greener pastures.

Why is the status quo or disaster the only two possibilities? If I were running China, I’d order the Kims to gradually reform NK to make it a functioning state. If the Kims refused to play ball, their great leaders would get assassinated one by one until someone got the message.

So China has to be charged with wanting this dumpster fire of a regime to continue, most likely because it gives the US a chance to bungle away most/all of its international prestige and soft power.
