My first Floyd purchase was Ummagumma in high school (‘70) and then I went back and listened to the Syd Barrett stuff which is quite poppy in ways as they were really a bit of a mod band then.

But if you only like Dark Side on then you would have missed this (see vid). I loved this piece of music for late nights on mind altering substances or creating art while in college and for in the car on a peaceful drive in the country. A real trip as it were. Only Floyd could give you Atom Heart Mother in 1970.

Don’t get me wrong - early Floyd was in heavy rotation among my friends (I got scared just about to death by hearing ‘Several Species of Small Furry Animals’ while under the influence of one thing or another). I just wasn’t really that into them until ‘Dark Side.’
