When the United States government launched the war on drugs as an excuse to make sure black people and hippies could be suppressed, where were the armed citizens against government tyranny?

When state and federal governments herded protesters into “free speech zones” behind fences, where were the armed citizens against government tyranny?

When police officers routinely shoot black Americans and are let off with a warning, where were the armed citizens against government tyranny?

In the wake of the Patriot Act, extraordinary rendition, government authorized torture, the establishment of an American gulag at Guantanamo Bay and the US government murdering its own citizens without benefit of due process in Yemen, among other places, where were the armed citizens against government tyranny?

Right. Nowhere to be found.

The last time I can think of armed citizens actually standing up to tyrannical government was the Battle of Athens, and that was in 1946 - and the rebels’ success had a great deal more to do with their being numerous and battle-hardened WWII vets, facing off against a corrupt county, rather than state or federal government, than with the firearms involved.

These days, we have armed citizens like Cliven Bundy, standing firm against the oppression of the government demanding he pay use fees for the government-owned land his cattle graze on. And Ammon Bundy and his militia pals taking over a wildlife sanctuary. For some reason.

TL:DR? Liberals discount “protection from government tyranny as a benefit of the Second Amendment” thanks to the incredible rarity of cases where this benefit has actually materialized.
