Classic example of “Correlation is not causation”. The same rifles, with slight cosmetic differences, were for sale in the US before, during and after the AWB. There is a jump in the shootings the but the AWB is not related to it, I would say.

But the statistical bounce is presumably real, so what else happened in time to trigger the rise?
