After 21 years’ occasional listening, I think he is not racist, but will do race baiting when it gets him what he wants, then play nice again when it gets him what he wants. He is a race mercenary.

Some of his rants can be excused as painfully naive and shallow, but not racist. Some rants can be excused as attempted witty political commentary with racist trappings, but ultimately not racist in intent - kind of the way Disney used swastikas and Nazi buffoons in anti-Nazi propaganda. You can squint your eyes and turn your head just right, and see how “Barrack the magic negro” could be intended to expose racist paternalistic left wing attitudes rather than be racist itself, though it remains exceedingly ham-fisted. The problem is how long can you make excuses for him until you see the underlying trend?
