re: #108 Bass Reeves

I meant to bring this up when you posted it last, but your opinion piece ignores that she is talking about manufacturers not being liable when crimes are committed, not when they create a demonstrably defective product. The context of course being Sandy Hook. Your piece’s author being a 2A nutjob.

Or if you are being pedantic again, pedant away.

The thing about Sandy Hook is that the rifle used to commit the murders was not sold to Adam Lanza, it was sold to his mother Nancy. A background check was properly run at time of purchase, but it did not stop the sale because Nancy had never broken the law. The check did not include her younger son and even if it had it would not have prevented the sale because Adam Lanza had never been found ‘mentally defective’.

Moreover, Nancy Lanza did not give her son access to her gun safe. Instead Adam Lanza spied on his mother to learn the combination and then used the rifle to kill her. There was nothing visible to anyone in the firearms or gun storage industries that would have given them any reason to suspect that rifle was going to end up in the hands of some as evil as Adam Lanza.
