I read today that it’s very possible he won’t spend the entire six months in jail. Iirc, he’ll spend something like 2-3 months incarcerated in the county jail. Turner is already appealing his sentence. Rep. Ted Poe [R-TX] spoke about the case on the House floor. Poe seemed to be pissed that Turner’s sentence is so short and is calling for the judge to be removed from office.

“Poe, who was a prosecutor and a criminal court judge over the past 30 years, says he has met many rape victims and learned that the attacks devastate their lives. “This judge got it wrong,” said Poe. “In this case, the court and the defendant’s father wanted a pass for the rapist because he was a big shot swimmer,” said the congressman.”

Poe’s comments surprise the hell out of me because I didn’t expect him to side with the victim. I have to give him props for being on the right side of this issue and for making his position part of the public record.
