Trying to summarize Jacobs and his essay and his appearance on Mohler’s podcast, I’m beginning to feel his essay is a kind of high-brow DARVO.

Here is probably the conclusion if/when I finish my Page:

Shorter Alan Jacobs: the reason there are no Christian intellectuals to take on the “illiberal and confrontational movements that often seem to be rooted in religious identity” [and given his deriding of Trump in his opening paragraph, we presume he means Trump and his followers] is because the non-Chistian liberals have excluded Christians from the the intellectual table.

I’m looking forward to that page. IMO the root issue is that in a secular society there is no reason to give any religion preferential treatment. So what is the point of being a “Christian intellectual”? If their ideas are good, they don’t need the support of religious authority. If their ideas are bad, religious authority cannot save them.
