Perry looked like he had it all to just up and leave the other candidates in the dust: a pole position, a clear message and a convincing persona.

Amazing to see that he could not build on all those advantages.

Perry was the Fred Thompson of this election season: The guy who everybody thought would absolutely ignite the primaries the day he entered and be totally unstoppable. But then he jumped in, the hype turned out to be covering for some very real deficiencies, and he’s now dropped to “short bus status” in the polls. There’s a chance he might pull himself up enough in the early polls to be taken seriously as a VP candidate, but as of now, there’s no chance he’s going to win the nomination.
