Why would it cost you 2 rosaries and a bunch of candles?

I like metal, and I like Taylor Swift. So that makes me pleased musically. The only way it could be better is if it was TSwift and Bon Jovi, or TSwift and Nightwish.

It was a wisecrack based on old school roman catholic confession (my mother was roman, I’m anglican. Different but more similar than not. Long story starts with Henry VIII not getting the annulment he wanted and an ambitious priest who really did think Rome had screwed up on a bunch of things. But I digress).

You would go in on Saturday, confess your sins of the past week to the priest and he would assign various levels of penance, which would vary but 99.99% of the time were designed to be done before mass the next morning so you could take communion with the rest of the faithful.

The Rosary is a set of prayers with a set of beads to the Virgin Mary. I really do use a similar form but mine are christo-centric rather than marian. Also the candles tend to be set up at a side altar dedicated to “devotion” to Mary (not worship, mind you, though no one on the outside would see any difference). In my Anglican/Episcopalian parish we have a similar set of devotional votive candles but set up before a crucifix of christ triumphant (another really long theological story) instead of Mary.

None of this makes sense to you I am sure. I only occasionally makes sense to me. Thankfully, even when it doesn’t make sense, my heart works in place of my brain.

Suffice it to say, it was a bad elaborate joke that I should be “punished” for enjoying that Ms. Swift would like Def Leopard enough to have them onstage with her.
