I think the point is that there was allegedly unlawful activity going on (sex in a public place). IF so, then it was not a cop’s whim to ask for an ID.

But that is another point. I think it is a very sad statement out our society that we think two people acting a bit romantic, even if in bad taste, warrants a police inquisition. You’re arguing that if a couple looks like they are, as the young started to put it a few years ago, “hook up”, then we ought to think “prostitution.”

The obsession in this country with hyper-vigilant morality over sex (and addictive behaviors) causes its own problems, and I think some of them are really now damaging our society.

There are online companies which arrange for “sugar daddy” meetings between women and men (usually). These are expensive. It escapes laws against prostitution. So if you have the $$$ you can essentially hire a mistress for sexcapades. But if you are poor - then we send the police after you.

This gets repeated over and over in our society in all sort of venues and issues.
