Well, you could quip that it was…the economics of the South continuing to own slaves and use that slave labor to stave off mechanization.
However, that’s still probably going to be a losing fight with someone so ingrained in their POV.
I did quip that it was over economics, namely the slaves the South owned were worth millions and they feared the North was gonna come and take them away. He followed in the time-honored wingnut tradition: He just kept repeating his nonsense until I gave up.
