I hate to break it to you, but having been around wingnuts a lot since he won, I’ve heard all sorts of variations of “He’ll get them to pay another way!” The most popular remains a tax on wire transfers to Mexico, but they also like to believe he’s gonna use funds raised from tariffs or even squeezing some sort of one-time payment out of Mexico as part of a trade deal to do it. So yes, if he goes to them in 2020 and promises to make Mexico pay during his second term, they will believe him implicitly.

27% of the US population is hopelessly lost. The rest, not so much. So I agree that those 27% will lap up anything Trump says. The rest will not.
