My understanding is that aside from the site owners being on the young side and liberal, and therefore wanting to be inclusive and be a comfortable place for LGBT and other marginalized people, they had some trouble with threats, doxing and other nasty stuff from a few of the conservatives. Not much, but enough that they were done with those folks.

They were also doing things like uploading patterns promoting white supremacy, Nazism, the Confederacy, &c.
