Took you longer than it might have ;) but at least you reached the right decision on the ethically challenged amphibian.

Newt is a loose canon at this point. I could actually see him trying to mount a third party campaign simply out of hateful spite.

Me too. It’s the hate that finally turned me against Newt. I first saw that ‘big and little food stamp’ malarkey on the CNN crawl at Wendy’s earlier today. Right before it was a Rick Santorum quote that (as I remember it) was Santorum saying he wanted the GOP to reach out to “100% of America”. The subtext of the two ads could not have been more different:

Santorum subtext: “I will engage people with whom I do not agree. I may not change my mind, but I will listen. I do not seek a narrow, regional Republican Party.”

Gingrich subtext: “Obama supports letting people mooch idlely off of the public teat, and because he supports a ‘safety net’ Romney is just Obama ‘lite’. Sons of the South, vote for me!”

Whatever you think of Rick Santorum, his remarks were honest, decent spirited and based on the GOP’s actual needs. Newt Gingrich’s remarks were dishonest, mean spirited, and based only on his own needs.
