I think the only way they’ll worry about him within the GOP is when he becomes poison to the base. Right now, Trump is more popular with the GOP base than the other GOP elected officials are.

But neither the GOP nor the Dems can reliably win elections by resting on their base. The Mushy Middle is the real ‘base’.
