Well, this is just bog-standard 21st-Century Republicanism [attempting to be enacted into] in action: “freedom of choice” is a fine concept when it comes to spending one’s own money (mostly), but when it’s the government’s dime, all standards no longer apply, and “welfare bums” ought to just accept what they get - and don’t get a say in any of it.

It’s in line with stuff I read a while back about other great Republican notions (mainly from State governments they control) like how “welfare recipients” ought not to be able to vote as long as they receive any form of direct government aid: demonizing the poor is GOP-standard stuff: if they thought they could get away with it, they would criminalize them as well.

Oh, we already know if Jared had his way, tenants unable to pay rent would be sent to debtor’s prison until they paid their debts to him. The modern GOP truly believes that poverty is a moral failing, a willful decision to be poor, rather than the result of their “pro-business” philosophy of cutting down as many barriers between a business owner and “his” money.
