Okay, I’ll play. If Othello were played by a white actor in blackface now, it certainly would be racist and it was definitely iffy to have him in blackface then but Northam was doing blackface in 1984. 1984. Olivier played Othello in the 40’s and you are right to point out that he didn’t make the character a racist caricature which is what the person posing in blackface in the photo was doing.
