For some reason, these two comments took me back to grade school. We did a “Johnny Appleseed” operetta in 5th grade. My character was named Melanie—when Melanie first appeared, the chorus sang, “Melanie. Melanie. Hardly a witch’s name. But still, you can’t be certain when the devil’s playing his game.”
That’s about all I remember (it was, after all, almost 60 years ago)—never have been able to find the libretto.
