I don’t know if it doesn’t gain them something. In Palestinian society, it seems to have succeeded. They get that all important “victim status” which is important in gaining the support of liberals and Leftists everywhere.
Look at how far the al-Durah hoax has gotten them.
It also re-enforcing the narrative of the blood libel.
