The problem with the “rebutting” is that the audience for such is quite small.

I’m not talking about substance, but style (yes, I know it’s just one of many things horribly wrong with the human race, but since it won’t change, one has to work with it)

Going back to my Biden example, what’s the one thing that sticks out in the minds of nearly everyone with so much as a vague memory of the debate? Biden calling Ryan’s arguments “malarkey.” We don’t remember what Ryan said, we just remember Biden calling it “malarkey.” That’s what putting a brick wall in the path of a gish-gallop looks like - instead of remembering the torrent of lies and half-truths, people remember your simple, straightforward dismissal of same.

Hell, if I were to appear on a “debate” with Moron Morano, I’d be sorely tempted to say something like, “my opponent, an oil industry shill, encourages his readers to send death threats to climate scientists. His argument is irrelevant”.
