The description is kind of incomplete.

There’s supposed to be an upward slice after the cross slice. There was a lot of honour attached to someone who could do this.

It rarely got that far. The samurai’s kaishakunin, or second usually beheaded them the instant the knife touched the suicider’s stomach.

There’s another form of seppuku not mentioned. A form where the samurai is admonishing his daimyo for foolishness or dishonourable behaviour. It’s a way of saying, “I cannot carry your wishes for they are wrong. It is better for me to die than to dishonour you or myself”
