I see some Very Concerned Liberals on my social media already ginning up the idea that because Pelosi is An Old and Not Very Charismatic, she should step aside and let someone younger and more “inspirational” take over as Speaker.

Fuck that noise.

The Speaker isn’t supposed to be the spirit animal for the entire party. The Speaker doesn’t become president. The Speaker has to be the iron fist keeping the party in line and moving legislation through the House. That doesn’t take charisma. It takes experience and knowledge, and Pelosi is by far still the best for that job.

I mean, isn’t that really one of the big untold stories from the last few GOP Congresses - how well Pelosi and Schumer have held their caucuses together in the minority?
