I think a lot of studio executives are unwilling to take a chance on new ideas. It’s an ongoing trend in film right now, along with wanting things that translate well for overseas box office receipts. That second one is one of the reasons that the Rock has become a megastar - it’s easy to sell The Rock vs Whatever overseas.

Conversely, in television, everyone seems more willing to take a chance because there’s just so many outlets now.
