Law abiding people usually don’t have previous mug shots on record.

I think the point is that the NRA dichotomy of law abiding and non-law abiding citizens is an overly simplistic fallacy. Lots of criminals, including mass shooters, are law abiding until the day they snap and all hell breaks loose—recent examples would be this guy in upstate NY, Dorner in CA, Lanza in CT, Holmes in CO, et al.

The fight over gun control is not about disarming citizens (a paranoid RW victimization fantasy); nor is it about most gun violence (far too big an issue to practically confront now). Rather it’s about attempting to make mass shootings less common and less lethal.

The choice of most mass shooters is the same type of semi-auto rifle, for the obvious reason of efficiency: it can kill the most people in the shortest amount of time. Thus the focus on banning AR-15s, but not other firearms.

And most mass shootings don’t occur in schools. So the NRA’s proposal of more armed guards in schools sounds nice on the surface, but doesn’t really address the overall problem of mass shootings.
