I’ve taken to comparing this scandal more to Watergate or Iran-Contra, where there was pretty clearly a crime at the beginning of the investigation and the whole investigation afterward was about getting the root of it. Comparing it to Whitewater, suggesting its a purely partisan affair started with an interest towards digging up criminal acts on the part of the Clintons, is such a joke that it being entertained says more about the person entertaining it than it does the scandal.
I think that’s one of Josh Marshall’s points. That and the rapid response of Trump can only be explained by a massive need to hide corruption.
