We can’t seriously hold China up as an example of success. The Chinese numbers are simply not credible. It’s tough to speculate on the real numbers in the absence of evidence, but a total leveling off of cases and deaths for six weeks is not plausible, not after such exponential growth.

For actual success, South Korea is a better example. Widespread testing, isolation, and bending the curve downwards successfully. Some other nations, like Japan and places like Washington state, also have done well, though it looks like they never had a serious outbreak and had a significant element of luck with how things have gone for them.
