There are crackpots who question Einstein’s relativity, the Big Bang, germ theory, and the impossibility of perpetual motion/free energy. Even better are the fringists who write their own Theories of Everything in physics, expecting a Nobel Prize any day now, if the benighted science community would only recognize their brilliance.

The problem is that here we have people giving the crackpots a platform and trumpeting this as division within the scientific community and other such bullshit.

No, it’s not. It’s crackpots. But the appeal to authority requires a competing authority, so they’re willing to elevate the crackpots like they mean something.
