Hollingsworth Homicides Connected To LEC Shooting

Investigators have tied shootings at three locations in Greenville County over the past few days back to one suspect.

Evan Casey Bennett, 23, is accused of shooting a Greenville police officer Monday night and fatally shooting three other people in the days prior before turning the gun on himself.

Loftis said Bennett killed two security guards at the old Hollingsworth textile factory on Friday and killed his stepfather, 58-year-old Gregory Thomas Jones, Monday night after he confronted Bennett about the Hollingsworth shootings.

Loftis said Bennett made comments about killing the guards to his family weeks ago, but they didn’t take him seriously until they found out the guards were dead.

The sheriff said after Bennett’s family confronted him about the killings Monday night at their home on 18 Augusta Court, Bennett went into his room and came out carrying a shotgun and wearing black tactical gear and camouflage pants.

A witness told police Bennett shot his stepfather twice in the face then came to the Law Enforcement Center on McGee Street half an hour later to continue his shooting spree.

“After shooting his stepfather, Evan Casey Bennett made the statement to a witness at the scene the war is just beginning,” said Loftis.

Loftis said Bennett went to a psychiatrist once in the past, but was not prescribed any medication.

The sheriff’s office arrested Bennett back in 2011 for stalking a woman, but the case was dismissed by the solicitor’s office.
