i think, just like they use birtherism, emails, etc as the excuse, they use reagan as the excuse / example, but dont really care one way or the other to “be” him. they just use his repackaged memory as a tool to try to win elections.

I actually disagree. I really think they think every Democratic presidential candidate is Carter in some way. I remember Obama being compared to Carter in 2008 by the wingnuts I knew at the time. As for being Reagan, it’s about being successful where Republican candidates have not been since Ronnie left office on a presidential level. Since 1992, they have only won the popular vote once.
