The United Methodist Church is not normally associated with “the religious right.” They nevertheless feel the same way as just about every other Christian church vis. atheists: We are to be shunned.

A lot is said about JWs and Seventh Day Adventists about shunning, but the reality is nearly every Christian church does it.

I am not welcome in any of my cousin’s homes but one because I am an atheist and no other reason.

It’s sad in a way that their religious faith is more important than their family (and they lost their damn minds when my sister was married), but that’s their problem.

Come on down to your local Episcopalian church. Several of our bishops are openly atheists (see Jack Spong for example. ) and lots are good & queer folk as well.
